Throughout the year we make many personal goals and promises to ourselves. This may include getting fit, eating healthy, growing a business, spending more time outdoors and less on social media, be more positive or to simply save money. So why is it that we set these new goals and expectations and are unable to follow through with them?
Although our goals may have the best intentions, it’s challenging to make a change to our everyday habitual routine. We have become so familiar and comfortable with what we do daily, doing something different feels abnormal. Change can be tough and that is why many of us wait until the New Year to start something new. To give us the momentum we need to make a positive change and stick with it. We have come up with 10 attainable, easy and achievable New Year’s resolutions that you can do to create a healthier, happier and positive YOU.

1. Yoga
Yoga has a ton of health benefits to improve your over all state of being. It increases your flexibility, creates mental clarity and calmness, relieves chronic pain, increases body awareness, forms better posture and balance, strengthens and tones all of the muscles in your body and promotes a healthy respiratory system through the breath.
2. Drink Hot or Cold Lemon Water
Drinking one cup of hot lemon water each morning is so beneficial! It’s like a refreshing wake up call for your gut, muscles and organs. It has been well known that drinking lemon water hot or cold, first thing in the morning on an empty stomach flushes the body’s internal system and cleanses the colon. This allows the body to be able to absorb much more nutrients from food. Bring on the nutritional breakfast!
3. Random Acts of Kindness
Who doesn’t love a nice compliment? Have you ever been on the receiving end of a compliment or act of kindness before? Remember how it made you feel? The world needs more of that.
It is scientifically known that the health benefits associated to acts of kindness increases productivity, decreased stress, pain and insomnia. It is also has super beneficial to the immune system and production of serotonin. Best of all? Smiling burns calories!

4. Meditation
Meditation encompasses techniques that induce relaxation, cultivate internal energy, develop compassion and encourage forgiveness. It clears the mind and promotes awareness. Meditation helps lower blood pressure, eases tension-induced pain, boost serotonin production and increases energy levels. It helps ease anxiety, builds emotional stability, boosts creativity and induces a sense of happiness.
5. Eat Healthy
Say YES to healthy, nutritious alternatives! Sugar is a sneaky little ingredient that likes to find it’s way into almost ALL processed foods to make it, well, taste better. Food should be able to taste great using natural sugars and wholefoods.
6. Meal Plan & Prep
What is meal prepping? Whether it is lunch for work or dinner for the family, meal planning and prepping is to set aside the time to prepare all or most of your meals for the week and store them. We believe you can save time, money and it be incredibly good for your health!
Doing a simple meal prep for the week can be a timeless healthy option for lunch and/or dinner throughout the week. Sunday afternoon, commit the time to researching recipes that you can make several portions with that will last you the week.
7. Read a New Book Each Month
Reading everyday is over all fantastic for your brain health. The benefits of reading include: mental stimulation, reduces stress, increases knowledge and vocabulary, improves memory, creates strong analytical thinking skills, improves focus and concentration and aids in better writing skills.
8. Start a Fitness Membership
Many of us can lose focus and motivation at the gym after weeks and weeks of the stair climber and elliptical. Our advice? Try signing up at a gym that offers classes like yoga, Zumba, Pilates, spin, boxing and/or weight lifting. Another option would be to sign up for a fitness program like a dance class, boxing or martial arts studio. This way you will have something to look forward too each week, it will give you the opportunity to have fun while working out and meet people within your community.
9. Monthly DIY Projects
Exploring the internet or Pinterest for do it yourself projects is a great way to spark some creativity, ideas and use your imagination. From restoring a $10 book case you purchased online to finding creative ways to organize your home. Make a goal of making a DIY project once a month.
10. Sunday Walks
Did you know a simple walk around the neighborhood can increase your mood? Fresh air is everything! Walking is known to increase cardiovascular and pulmonary (heart and lung) fitness, reduce the risk of chronic disease, creates stronger bones and improves balance.
Why not make a pack with yourself or a loved one to go on a walk or hike every Sunday. This way, no matter what kind of week you’ve had, come Sunday you’ll get some fresh air, exercise and spend some quality time with a spouse or friend.
